After 53 years in the baking industry Alan Waugh, who has been a director with Andrew Ingredients since 2001, has retired.
Alan started his career with his father in the family business W.H. Waugh & Co in 1961. In 1962 he started an apprenticeship with Belfast based Inglis’ Bakery which included a two year course at the National Bakery School in London. He also held a position with Jo Lyons & Co at Cadby Hall, London, in their new product development department. Alan returned to Northern Ireland in 1966 to take positions in O’Hara’s and The Co-Op Bakery after which he re-joined his father in the business in 1967. In 1973, following the death of his father, Alan took over the family business where he helped it develop and grow. In 2001 W.H.Waugh & Co was acquired by Andrew Ingredients where Mr Waugh held the position of Director until his retirement in 2014.
To celebrate Alan's retirement, the whole team at Andrew Ingredients, a long standing supplier, customers and Alan's close family took a tour of Crumlin Road Gaol, which was followed by a delicious meal at James Street South Bar & Grill in Belfast.
